The Art Of Weapons

Here at Empowered Spirit Tae Kwon Do, our weapons class is designed to educate and train students on the different types of weapons, how they are used and how to craft a weapons form.

Tae Kwon Do weapon training is often used in other martial art styles outside of Korea such as China, Japan and the Philippines. Interesting enough, the weapons that have been used in martial art training originated from farm equipment and everyday tools.

Advance Your Martial Arts Training

During this class students will learn a variety of techniques, movements and defenses that will go into creating their own weapon form. By doing this, students will use Tae Kwon Do and their weapon skills to demonstrate an impressive amount of power and creativity. Often you will see these skills showcased at a competition or demonstration.

Our weapons class offers students a chance to train in Bo Staff, Unchucks and Kamas. These types of weapons can and are used as an extension of the arm or body. That’s why it is imperative that every student practice’s not only their Tae Kwon Do techniques, but knows how it applies to their weapons training, which will result in becoming a well-rounded martial artist.

Experienced Weapons Martial Artist

Our weapons class is instructed by Mr. Lane Epstien, who has been studying Tae Kwon Do for the past 12 years. He is a second-degree black belt and has been training in weapons for 3 years. He is dedicated to helping students learn the art of weapons.

I hope that students feel challenged and excited to learn something new. I encourage students to be creative and build a fun environment to learn.

Cross-Train In Weapons Based Combat: Eskrima

The Eskrima Weapons class at Empowered Spirit Tae Kwon Do is for martial artists who seek to cross-train in weapons-based combat.

This unique class starts with a single short stick (short sword/machete style) and a 2-stick (double short sword style) style.

The training is performed with rattan sticks and teaches the fluid pattern/weaving style of Siniwallis as the 2-stick style which is a fluid flurry of activity as the sticks weave in offensive/defensive patterns.

The single short stick style of Dequerdas which is a more direct block and strike solution with disarms and a new appreciation of what can be done with a shorter blade/stick for self-defense. These are the beginning styles on the path of the Eskrimador/Eskrimadora.

Decades of Experience In Eskrima Training

Guro McWethy has been a practitioner of Eskrima for almost 30 years, and an instructor for almost 25 years.  His lineage is with the Inayan clans prior to founding the Equilibrado Orihinal System of Eskrima where he continues to propagate the foundational concepts of the art.

His philosophies for teaching are grounded in learning the techniques and their driving concepts, gaining skills with these techniques, and the ability to apply the knowledge/skills gained through structured sparring engagements.
